What's this world coming to?

I know the world is falling to pieces.

The country loses an obscene amount of money every day by funding a war that hasn't panned out according to plan. New York Times reporters are contacting John McCain's daughter's friends to get info on Cindy McCain. Adam Jones gets crucified for having a disease (alledgedly) and Matt Jones gets off easy for snorting narcotics directly into his sinus cavity.

Hell, I thought we were a furlong away from the apocolypse when Manny wasn't able to drop the elbow on the Phillies. But this... this is the end. The earth seems to be getting hotter by the second due to all of the greenhouse gases, but on Saturday night, the temperature rose in the greatest incriment ever recorded in intervals of 20 seconds.

On Saturday night, this happened:

A college football umpire, Wilbur Hackett Jr., floored South Carolina Gamecock (Ha!) Quarterback Stephen Garcia, with a shoulder tackle, during a play against LSU. In fact, Hackett's hit effectively ended the play; stopping Garcia in his tracks, preventing him from gaining any more yards or even a touchdown.

Now I don't think Hackett should be suspended for the hit or his haunting last name (Curse you, Paul Hackett!) because there isn't any conclusive evidence that the hit was intentional. Hackett beat the system by making it appear like he was side-stepping Garcia while laying the thunderous blow to the Quarterback's upper torso.

Even though his intent cannot be proven, there is a great deal of evidence against Hackett in this situation.

First, he was watching the runner the whole time. Garcia had to have felt the cold stare of the beast, but failed to sense his presence. Surely this will be a major factor when Mel Kiper ranks the SEC quarterbacks... but that's besides the point. Hackett was watching the ball like he should have been, but his reaction to Garcia's cut was one of malice. Hackett stepped right in front of Garcia. Why would he do that if he knew where the ball was going? Part of his job is to stay out of the way.

Second, Hackett planted his feet before making contact with Garcia. But wait, that's not all. After the feet were planted, Hackett sprung at the runner like a cheetah pouncing on an antelope. But wait, that's not all... again. Hackett threw a forearm shot at Garcia. The type of strike you would usually see in a Japanese wrestling match; stiff and unforgiving. I thought the game officials were supposed to be neutral...

And lastly, after the bone chilling impact from Hackett and the subsequent thud from Garcia crashing into the turf like he had just been shot, Hackett stood over his prey like the famous shot of Cassius Clay towering over a downed and groggy Sonny Liston. Similar to the way I would stand over an adversary after I hit them with my 'Blast Knuckles Stun Gun.'

Hackett obviously had malicious intent going into the play and displayed that intent with his actions following the play.

Now tell me those aren't the characteristics of a man who played linebacker at the University of Kentucky from 1967 to 1970... "I dare you. I double dare you mother------!" [The Great Samuel L. Jackson from Pulp Fiction] (See the movie Lauterbach.)

With all of that damning evidence there, the SEC has ruled that Hackett was in "appropriate position" to call the play and only planted his feet and threw a forearm in self-defense.

Congrats, Hackett, you vile fiend. You beat the system... this time.

Week 6 NFL Picks

Week 6 in the NFL rolls along and ya boy is feeling quite confident.  Jordan, ya going down son!

Detroit Lions @ Minnesota Vikings - Adrian Peterson is due for a big game on the ground, especially considering his Monday night performance.  The Lions are terrible and they won't get any better any time soon.  Peterson outscores the Lions and the Vikings win.

Chicago Bears @ Atlanta Falcons - I thought the Green Bay game was winnable for Atlanta and I was obviously right, except I picked the Packers.  I like Atlanta at home in this one.  Atlanta wins.

Oakland Raiders @ New Orleans Saints - The Saints continue to disappoint me and Monday night was a game they had in their hands but let slip away.  Oakland is still a team in turmoil and I think the Saints win fairly easily.

Cincinnati Bengals @ New York Jets - Bengals have played competitively the past three weeks but no Carson Palmer takes out any hope of the Bengals chances to pull an upset.  Favre throws probably four more touchdowns.  Jets win big.

Miami Dolphins @ Houston Texans - Miami has been a sleeper team this year and no one can figure out Ronnie Brown.  I think Houston is due for a win though especially after the blunders of Sage Rosenfels.  Houston wins by a field goal.

Carolina Panthers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Carolina is in my top 5 in terms of power rankings.  They are playing extremely well on both sides of the ball and with their two headed running combo and the return of Steve Smith, they are forming balance on offense.  Pirats fall to the Cats.

Baltimore Ravens @ Indianapolis Colts - The Ravens had a realistic shot at being 4-0 right now but they have left 2 games in a row slip away from them late. The Colts escaped with a win in Houston last week and that may have been the stimulus for some sort of run.  Colts win.

St. Louis Rams @ Washington Redskins - Simply put: Matt Soldano's Power Rankings = Redskins No.3 - Rams No.32.  Skins win.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Denver Broncos - I am going to go with a bit of the upset on this one and take the Jags.  If they want to make a run at this thing, the Jags need to turn it around ASAP.  Jacksonville wins close.

Dallas Cowboys @ Arizona Cardinals - Another upset, I said the Dallas ship is sinking and I stand by that.  Cardinals win.

Philadelphia Eagles @ San Francisco 49ers - McNabb is embarrassed and Westbrook is hurt.  I like the Eagles.

Green Bay Packers @ Seattle Seahawks - No Matt Hasselbeck in this one.  Hey, its not like he has been any good this year.  Pack win.

New England Patriots @ San Diego Chargers - San Diego wins because of all the reasons I stated above for the Jaguars.

New York Giants @ Cleveland Browns - Giants improve to 5-0, stay as the class of the NFL.

Last Week: 7-7
Overall: 32-42

Remember how I'm always right...?

Well, your boy has just struck again.

It's no secret that I'm a huge Kevin Love fan. I don't like college basketball (and still don't) but Kevin Love got me interested in UCLA last year.

I threw my full support behind Kevin Love. Every week on The Sportswire (Thurs. @ 9pm on WCWP) I would praise his superior play; which I was often ridiculed for.

But no one has said a thing ever since he brought his team to become the #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, the Final Four and was arguably the best player in NCAA Division 1.

That being said, here's a video of the T-Wolves rookie making some sick trick shots.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GFGPqdpEAk

Since I was right about Kevin Love being completely awesome, Manny dropping the elbow on the Cubs and countless other things, what will I be right about next?

You have to listen to the Sportswire to find out.

Eric Smith Appeals Suspension

Jets safety Eric Smith is appealing his 1-game suspension for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Cardinals' receiver Anquan Boldin.

Here was my reaction when I heard this:

"What the hell? Take the week off you idiot!"

Smith was also concussed after the hit, so maybe he forgot that coming back too soon after a concussion (even a minor one) can have a negative effect on your play and overall health.

So Eric, take the week off and stop wasting your energy. The Jets don't need you against Cincy.

NFL Picks Week 5

Hopefully picking the games a day earlier will have me beat Jordan for the first time this season and continue my dominant run over Mike T.   Onto the picks...

San Diego Chargers @ Miami Dolphins - I think the Chargers are ready to explode and although Miami is no tough test, the Chargers will gain confidence with a big win on the road.  Big game for the Diego offense.

Tennessee Titans @ Baltimore Ravens - This is going to be a closer game than many people think. Tennessee's success has been due to defense and running the football.  Well Baltimore has a fabulous defense itself and they haven't let up a 100 yd rusher in 22 straight games.  I think Baltimore is hungry for a win after their choke against the Steelers.  Baltimore wins.

Kansas City Chiefs @ Carolina Panthers  - Kansas City actually showed me something against the Broncos last week.  They won't make it two in a row however as the Panthers win easily.

Chicago Bears @ Detroit Lions - The new era without Matt Millen begins for the Lions at home against a division rival.  However, the Lions still suck, just suck a little less now.  Bears win and continue the common theme of the Lions sucking.

Indianapolis Colts @ Houston Texans - At 1-2, the Colts need to turn their season around ASAP.  With a head coach in Tony Dungy, a leader in Peyton Manning and all the surrounding talent, I cant fathom this team going 1-3 and losing to a team that has really underachieved. Colts win.

Washington Redskins @ Philadelphia Eagles  - Washington impressed me last week in Dallas but I do not think they will win two in a row against division rivals.  Brian Westbrook is expected to be back for the Eagles which will ease some pressure off the McNabb. Eagles win a barn burner.

Seattle Seahawks @ New York Giants - Giants win to go to 4-0.  Is this even a question?

Atlanta Falcons @ Green Bay Packers - If Aaron Rodgers does not play, this will be a very winnable game for the Falcons considering the way the Pack have run the ball (thanks Ryan Grant...) With that being said, I still think the Packers will get the win.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Denver Broncos - Denver returns home where they have put up like 276 points so far.  I don't think Tampa will keep up with the offense that the Broncs will provide.  I like the Broncos in this one.

Cincinnati Bengals @ Dallas Cowboys - I love Chad's pregame trash talk.  To me that is when he plays his absolute best and what gets himself motivated.  Hey he hasn't done it all season and his team is 0-4 and is sadly going to be 0-5 after this one.  Cowboys win, but hey at least the star will get a pucker of Ocho Cinco's lips.

New England Patriots @ San Francisco 49ers - I really think the 49ers can win this game. However, I will never bet against Bill Belicheck after a bye week.  Thats like betting against the Mets collapsing in 2009.  Ya just dont do it.  Pats win a nail biter.

Buffalo Bills @ Arizona Cardinals - Im taking the Bills because Boldin will mostly not likely be playing.  Warner is a statue back there in the pocket.

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Jacksonville Jaguars - The Jags are like the Chargers, just getting ready to explode and be one of the elites.  They beat the Steelers for the second time in two years and improve their win streak to three games.

Minnesota Vikings @ New Orleans Saints - After this game, it is time to put my Minnesota Vikings getting into the playoff hopes to bed.  Drew Brees is on an absolute tear right now. Hey, maybe if he was wearing purple the Vikes may have a chance...

Last week: 7-6
Overall:25-35
