| Rex Ryan and the Jets have an important offseason ahead. |
The New York Jets started this season with a lot of potential and players and fans were optimistic for the 2012 season. The Jets brought in a new offensive coordinator in Tony Sparano, and Tim Tebow as the backup to Mark Sanchez. The Jets kept saying that they had a whole playbook for Tebow and all they did all year was bring in him on third and short and ran the football up the middle for minimal gains. If you were going to do that why trade for him in the first place.
Of the six wins the Jets had, I would say the most impressive one was against the Indianapolis Colts when they won 35-9. They actually played well and had a good mix of run and pass. Why couldn’t they play like that the rest of the year remains a mystery. The other five wins they had were against teams like the St. Louis Rams and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Then we get to last three weeks of the regular season and they're all very winnable games. And what do they do? They lose all three. Week 15 they lose to the Tennessee Titans 14-10 and had five turnovers in the game. Sanchez had 4 interceptions and was only 13/28 in the game. Week 16 they lose to the San Diego Chargers 27-17. Then week 17 they lose to the Buffalo Bills 28-9. Mark Sanchez went 17/35 for only 205 yards.
On black Monday the Jets fired GM Mike Tannembaum which I think was the right move. I think Tannembaum was a little too influenced by what head coach Rex Ryan had to say and what he wanted to do with the team. Hopefully with the new GM, the Jets will be able to fix this team and not let Ryan push the organization around. At the season ending news conference, Woody Johnson said he had complete confidence in Ryan as head coach and did not even think about firing him. If I was Johnson I would have at least given some serious thought about firing Ryan or at least letting him know that if the Jets don’t make the playoffs next year he will be fired. I hope next season they are a better team and have a winning record because 6-10 is just unacceptable.
