From Newsday:
As the Knicks Monday learned that Jason Kidd decided to stay in Dallas - not before making Mark Cuban sweat out a few more million dollars on the eve of Kidd's trip to New York last Wednesday - their other free-agent target, Grant Hill, came in for the same red-carpet treatment.
After Hill's meeting with Donnie Walsh and Mike D'Antoni at the Garden at about noon, a stop at the Westchester practice facility and then dinner in the evening, the Knicks were hopeful they're not being used as leverage again.
And Hill, who on Sunday met with Doc Rivers in Orlando about joining the Celtics, said he is "very serious" about the Knicks. "I've always been a fan of the Knicks and the city," Hill told reporters during his visit at the Garden Monday. "Obviously, they've gone through a lot the last few years, but I'm a big fan of Donnie Walsh and Mike D'Antoni, so I'm definitely interested. I'm just taking it all in."
Ugh... Maybe before Grant Hill is signed, Donnie Walsh should make sure that he can still trade for Tracy McGrady. That way, he could sign David Lee, buy some top level free agents next year, and we can all be happy.
I can't think of why Hill would be brought in. He's a D'Antoni guy, I guess. But everybody is a D'Antoni guy. Veteran leadership has been cited as a reason. But where would a veteran lead this team? To the ground, that's where. I just don't know any more.
Someone give me a reason for the Knicks, who, remember, are trying to get younger and shrink their payroll, would sign a 37-year old forward with bad knees? Seriously, someone tell me.
I don't like the symbolism in that picture (above).
By the way, the Newsday readers agree with ya boy:
