Brett Gardner to the DL

Brett Gardner was placed on the disabled list after breaking his thumb in yesterday's game against Oakland. The injury occurred when Gardner broke up a double play in the 1st inning by sliding through second base. He stayed in the game after that.

Despite the injury, Gardner hit an RBI triple in the 6th and made two consecutive diving catches in centerfield in the 8th.

Brett Gardner is hitting .275 with 3 homeruns and 20 RBIs on the year. He's among the leaders in triples with 6. He's 20 of 25 on stolen base attempts this season.

Jonathon Albaladejo was called up for today's game. An outfielder is expected to be called up by tomorrow. Joe Girardi stated that Austin Jackson will not be the one called up. He does not want to slow the development of the young outfielder.

The Yankees have three outfielders in Triple-A other than Jackson who are ready to come up. Shelley Duncan (25HR, 75RBI, .270avg, .923OPS) has put together a great season with Scranton. John Rodriguez has been solid. Also, Ramiro Pena was initially sent down to learn outfield.

Duncan and Rodriguez are not on the 40-man roster. My suggestion would be to place Chien-Ming Wang on the 60-day DL, and move one of those two up. I'd be hesitant to call up Pena to play outfield because he's only been playing there for a few weeks.
