Wash Out! U.S Open suspended until tommorow

I guess the golf gods love of tourture extends to the tourturing of fans. Pumped up for today's first round? Can't wait for an exciting weekend at Bethpage? Well, how about we make you wait an extra day.

Due to heavy rain fall all over the New York area, today's U.S Open first round has been suspended until tomorrow. Tee time for tomorrow is 7:30am. ESPN will begin it's television coverage at 9:55am.

I have a question. 9:55? Really? Why not 10am? I love my golf, but I'm sure I could wait another 10 minutes.

For what its worth, here are some of the leaders.

Jeff Brehaut, Johan Edfars, Andrew Parr, and Ryan Spears are all tied for the lead at -1. Of that group, Brehaut is the farthest along, having played 11 holes. Best part about this? For years, these four men can tell their kids that they led the U.S Open after one day. Now that's something.

Tiger Woods is at +1 through 6 holes. Tiger had some trouble off the tee today. He went far left on his first shot of the day, but recovered and saved par. But his troubles would not be over. A bad third shot on the 5th hole, led to a double Bogey. Maybe the rest of the day off is not a bad thing for Woods.

John Merrick is also at +1. He's completed four. Others at +1- Geoff Ogilvy, Steve Stricker, Vijay Singh, Jim Furyk, K.J Choi.

The ghost of Padraig Harrigton is still on the prowl. The three time major champion is +4 through 6. A missed cut would be his fifth of the season. A lot of Harrington's troubles have been attributed to his change in swing. He is known as a constant tinkerer. When asked earlier in the week whether he would change what hasn't been working for him. He replied that it was too late to change anything and he would "dance with the girl that you brought to the dance" Clearly, Padraig should find another date.

So, we in the golf world will have to wait until tomorrow to see how Phil does, or how Bethpage plays for a full 18, or if any of these amateurs can surprise us. I guess I'll just have to go back to shooting a disastrous +10 at cyber bethpage in Tiger Woods 10.
