Teammates: Jameer will Play

From the AP:

Orlando Magic players say Jameer Nelson will play in the NBA finals, even though the All-Star point guard and his coach remain publicly pessimistic.

Nelson participated in a full team practice Tuesday for the first time since tearing the labrum in his right shoulder Feb. 2. While Nelson and coach Stan Van Gundy still said the point guard's status won't be determined until game day, players said Nelson looked "terrific" and expect him to be on the court against the Los Angeles Lakers.

I've already said that I'm not crazy about bringing Jameer Nelson back. Disrupting the chemistry between Rafer Alston & Anthony Johnson and the rest of the team... Risking further injury to the shoulder... That kind of stuff.

But now this seems kind of weird to me. Does a rusty Nelson give Orlando a much greater chance of beating the Lakers? Are Nelson and Stan Van Gundy staying "publically pessimistic" because they want to unleash the point guard like some secret weapon?

If he's going to play, say it. If not, don't.

All of this tomfoolery leading to Nelson's return will not lead to an inspiring jolt for the Orlando Magic. It's just become a joke. Apparently, he's close to 100%. So if he plays, it's cool. If he doesn't, it's cool.

Who does he think he is?

Not even close.
