There are several reports coming out stating that Chein-Ming Wang will make a start for the Yankees tomorrow against the Texas Rangers. This will be Wang's first start since April 18th, when he let up 8 runs in 1.1 innings to the Cleveland Indians in an eventual 22-4 loss. Wang was sent to rehab in AAA-Scranton, and returned to the main roster in late May, coming out of the bullpen.
Wang made 3 relief appearances. His first, against Philadelphia, was lackluster. In 3 innings, he gave up 2 runs on 6 hits, including a homerun. However, his next two times out of the pen were promising. In 5 innings combined, he gave up only 3 hits, never rendering a run, and struck out 5. His sinker had the most movement in his final appearance on Sunday against Cleveland.
According to Yahoo Sports, "Joe Girardi told reporters Tuesday that he was pleased with how Wang, who has thrown five shutout innings over his last two relief appearances, has looked lately, but Girardi added that the Yankees aren’t ready to make a change to the rotation."
This move would send Phil Hughes to the bullpen. Hughes is just two starts removed from his 8-inning, 3-hit, 6-strikeout performance in Texas. In his last 3 starts, Hughes has fanned 21 batters. However, he has failed to exceed 5 innings pitched in 5 of his 7 starts this year.
