Putz Out 8-10 Weeks

And the injury news just keeps worsening... According to Ken Rosenthal of foxsports.com, New York Mets reliever J.J. Putz will be out 8-10 weeks to recover from surgery in which he will have a bone spur removed from his pitching elbow.

"Putz will be unable to throw for six weeks and likely will be out 8 to 10 weeks, the source said. He would return in early to mid-August if he meets the 8-to-10-week timetable."

"(The recovery) can't come quick enough." Putz told foxsports.com.  "Just getting out there, being healthy, being able to throw without thinking, 'Is this pitch going to hurt?'  'Is that pitch going to hurt?'  It's tough to pitch that way."

It seemed pretty obvious to me that after two months of under-achieving, something had to be physically wrong with Putz.  This is the best option for Putz, go and have the surgery, rehab, and comeback for the final month and half stronger than ever.  Hopefully Putz will have his velocity on his fastball and the combination of him, Bobby Parnell, and Francisco Rodriguez will make a dominant 7-8-9 trio.
