Knicks Purchase 28th Pick

A day after the Timberwolves dashed the New York Knicks' plans to trade up into the 5th spot in the NBA Draft, Minnesota has sold the 28th overall pick to New York for $3 million. The Knicks own the 8th overall selection as well.

The Knicks were rumored to strike a deal with the Washington Wizards for the 5th overall pick in the draft. Those aspirations were halted when Washington sent that selection to Minnesota yesterday, along with 3 players. In return, Washington received Mike Miller and Randy Foye.

The presumed deal between New York and Washington would have seen Jared Jeffries and/or Larry Hughes make a return to the nation's capital.

UPDATE: Terms of the deal are still being hammered out, but the move is close to being completed.

------------

I like this move for the Knicks. Donnie Walsh is clearly displaying his ability to roll with the punches after the Minnesota-Washington trade yesterday. But I wouldn't be surprised if we see Walsh package the 8th and 28th picks with a player to move up.

But, as the draft stands now, Stephen Curry could very well fall to New York at number 8. I think Sacramento at number 4 takes Jonny Flynn. Ricky Rubio and Tyreke Evans go to Minnesota at 5 and 6. The two humps to get over would be Oklahoma City at 3 and Golden State at 7. Curry could fit on both rosters. The Thunder are said to like James Harden and Golden State could really do anything, it's a matter of whether or not the team wants to upset Monta Ellis.

Don't be shocked if a team between picks 2-7 take Curry and ship him to the Knicks for the picks and a big dog. Wilson Chandler has been involved in trade rumors. As I've made perfectly clear, I'm not a fan of trading Chandler or selecting Curry.

The Knicks could be better off taking another person who could fall, Jordan Hill.
