Harris Wants a Point Guard

From the NY Post:

Count Devin Harris among the interested parties who wouldn't mind seeing the Nets draft a third point guard. And if the Nets go in that direction, Harris likes the thought of Syracuse point Jonny Flynn.

"I've watched him a lot. He's tough, can do a lot of different things on the floor. He can score when you need him to. He handles the ball. He's quick. He's strong, can run a team," Harris said yesterday at a charity autograph signing appearance for his 34 Ways to Assist Foundation at a Hackensack Dunkin' Donuts.

"We need a third point guard," Harris said, noting the Nets' other needs as well, "athleticism, somebody who brings toughness, grit. I read about the power forward from Wake Forest [James Johnson] as a possibility."

I haven't thought of a point guard as a possibility for the Nets. But it does make some sense. A person to give Harris and Keyon Dooling a rest. Dooling might even be a starter come next season. However, I wouldn't spend the 11th overall pick on someone who would immediately be pitted as the 3rd point guard.

What the Nets need is a player who can impose their athleticism on the opponent at anytime. A player like that is most commonly found in the frontcourt, unless the point guard has Iverson-like quickness. A big, athletic, dominant forward is New Jersey's greatest need. They have a great opportunity to fill it in the draft.

Speaking of Iverson, Pro Basketball News reports:

Word is Washington has some interest (although that seems unlikely), as does New Jersey (even more unlikely).

Hopefully the Nets don't use their coin on Iverson. They should use their spending money on something a little nicer.
