From Yahoo! Sports:Rumor #1 - The Chicago Bulls are trying to trade their 16th pick and 26th pick with the New Jersey Nets in order to move up to pick 11. The Bulls are targeting Wake Forest power forward James Johnson. The Nets really like Terrence Williams at 11 but would consider doing the deal if they had a strong belief Tyler Hansbrough would be available at number 16 (which I think he will be).
Thoughts? Tsk Tsk Chicago. This might not be the best draft in terms of elite talent but like Kyle Nelson of draftexpress.com said today on the Replacements, there are people in the late first round that can be sleepers and fit nicely onto teams. Your going to trade two first round picks just to move up five slots, just to pick a guy who was inconsistent during his collegiate career and showed up to the NBA training sessions over 250 pounds? Hell, with the way things are going with Johnson he will probably be available at 16. If I am Jersey I do this in a heartbeat.
Rumor #2 - The Nets and the Cleveland Cavaliers have discussed a trade that would send Vince Carter to Ohio. Carter has two years and a massive $33.6 million left on his deal. The Nets would take back Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic, the same two players mentioned in the Shaq rumor.
Thoughts? Will Vince ever get off the trading block. The answer is no because of the way the Nets want to move forward financially. For the Nets, I guess it makes some sense for the long term but for the short term it is going to leave a big wound. Vince is a 20 point guy who had bit of a resurgence last year. Long term, moving expiring contracts like Ben Wallace will loosen up cap-space for the next few years. For the Cavs, Vince Carter is the type of player Lebron James might need. No, he's not the dominant low post player but anytime you throw another All-Star on the court, good things have to happen, right? Oh wait, it's Vince Carter and teams with VC never have success. What the hell, Cleveland is desperate.
According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal:
Rumor #3 - The Nets "would be willing" to part with Devin Harris and trade him to the Grizzlies in order to move up to the number two pick in the draft.
Thoughts: Well, this comes out of left field. To me, this is just very very very dumb. Harris blossomed under Coach Lawrence Frank and the Nets offense last year. He averaged a career high in points, assists, and steals and cemented himself as a top five point guard in the East. If they trade him away, it is a guarantee they want Rubio but have the Nets become so desperate that they would trade away future superstars for unproven, yes high potential, but still unproven players. Jersey, do not do this!
