Walsh: Knicks Would Move Up For Thabeet

Well this is an idea I talked about in late April on Off the Glass.  We had Newsday's Alan Hahn to discuss the Knicks draft and I brought up how smart the Knicks would be to draft Hasheem Thabeet in next month's NBA Draft.  Well now, even the Knicks brass is listening to me.

According to Marc Berman of the NY Post, Donnie Walsh has his eyes set on Thabeet and would look closely at the idea of trading up for him.

"Walsh interviewed Thabeet the Chicago NBA Draft combine Wednesday and is the only prospect he views worthy enough to give up a decent asset to move up from No. 8 in the draft. The Knicks were last in shotblocking the past two seasons."

I think selecting Hasheem Thabeet is a pick that will obviously provide evidence that Coach D'Antoni is beginning to switch the way he operates things.  Obviously, the Knicks can pick a dynamic scorer in Steph Curry who can shoot the lights out but there are questions about his game outside of that. Thabeet's offensive game will grow, and it will take time, but to put a 7 foot 3 inch monster on the floor game in and game out will automatically improve your defense.  Also, with Thabeet in the middle, David Lee can move back to his natural position at the power forward.  With that being said, I believe Thabeet is going to end up in Memphis at #2 and as low as #3 to the Thunder so the Knicks are definitely going to have to come up with some sort of package that compensate for such a large leap.
