Niese Optioned, Nelson Figueroa to Return

Adam Rubin of the NY Daily News has this:

Jon Niese lasted two turns in the rotation. The rookie lefthander was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo after Wednesday's start, and Nelson Figueroa has been summoned after the excessive bullpen work. It may not be a leap to suggest that Tim Redding will be activated and start Monday in Los Angeles.

It's kind of funny. Figgy has one alright start and he's released. Niese replaces him, and after one alright start, Niese is sent down to the minors. I love this illustrious carousel, especially when Tim Redding is involved.

Tough loss fo the Mets today. The repeated refusals to slide is a head-scratcher. Jose Reyes was the culprit today, going into third base. It was Carlos Beltran who got some heat a little while ago for not getting dirty at home plate.

I'm sure Matt Soldano will have tons to say about this tonight at 10pm EST on "Sports Talk for Dummies". He, along with Anthony DeFranco, will be on 88.1 FM in Long Island. You can listen live here.
