Leon Washington Absent for OTAs

Hutchinson has this one too:

The Jets now have two disgruntled running backs.

Pro Bowl kick returner Leon Washington, who doubles as a dynamic, game-breaking running back, skipped the start of Monday's organized team activities at Florham Park because he's unhappy with his contract, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. That person requested anonymity because he's not authorized to speak for the Jets or Washington.

Veteran running back Thomas Jones, who led the AFC in rushing with 1,312 yards and scored a career-high 13 rushing touchdowns last season, has boycotted the voluntary sessions all offseason.

There are instances where you just have to concede and hand over the money. This is one of those instances.

Leon Washington is an integral part of the Jets offense -- not to mention special teams. He, along with 3rd round pick Shonn Greene, were set to be a dynamic halfback tandem for the next few years. The Jets need to get this deal done. It's more imperative than Thomas Jones' contract.

Washington was being extremely patient with his contract situation; evidenced by his many dealings with the media during his negotiations. Now since the organization cannot find a piece of paper to write out a suitable contract for their most explosive offensive weapon, he is publicly expressing his displeasure and gaining more leverage.

He's 26 (going on 27), he's multi-faceted, and he's a good character guy. It's an easy choice. Get him locked up now.
