Gwaltney Not Done with Football

From Steven Marcus of Newsday:

Gwaltney graduated from North Babylon in 2005 and has played less than two full seasons at West Virginia and Post. Only 22, he still has two years of college eligibility remaining.

"I'm closer to my dream than I've ever been before," he said about one day playing professionally. He said he is looking to play at the Division III level, where he could be eligible in the fall.

As one of the broadcasters for CW Post Football, I have to admit that I wish Jason Gwaltney was still at Post. On a team where there were way too many inconsistencies, Gwaltney was a bright spot in that offense. In every game he played, I think it was safe to say that he was the most dominant player on that field.

Gwaltney played in only 6 of the 11 regular season games for the Pioneers. Regardless, he still led the team in all rushing categories with 729 yards and 10 touchdowns on 128 carries (5.5 yds/carry).

Now, the fact that he's gone may not mean the CW Post Pioneers will be a terrible team. One thing we were able to say several times last year is that the team had a great amount of talent -- even when Gwaltney was out. However, the team did lose several seniors. It'll be interesting to see how this team performs come August 29 at home against American International. Of course, you can hear that game on WCWP Sports.

Check out the link to the article. It's a pretty good interview from Gwaltney's perspective on his time at CW Post.
