Now onto the games. Let's start with the upset:
13th seeded Cleveland State beat-down the 4th seed Wake Forest 84-69 as the Vikings seem to be shaping the mold as the first true Cinderella of this year's dance. Cedric Jackson led CSU to the victory with an all around great game scoring 19 points 7 rebounds and 8 assists. They won this game being all around efficient shooting 48% from the field, 40% from downtown and turning the ball over six times. Wake Forest seems to have been the most overrated team going into the tournament.
Now onto the overtime games:
The Wisconsin Badgers secured another 12-5 upset (the third of the tournament!) beating the Seminoles of Florida State 61-59 in overtime. Toney Douglas led all scorers with 26 for FSU. Trevon Hughes scored a clutch three point play at the end of the overtime to secure the win.
What's better than one overtime? Two overtimes! And we saw Siena defeat Ohio State 74-72. Ronald Moore was a stud for Sienna when they needed it most as he hit a 3 with 3.9 seconds left in the game to seal the victory. He also hit one at the end of the first overtime. He finished the game with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists.
Finally Michigan State defeated Robert Morris 77-62. Spartans had a balance scoring attack with 5 players in double figures.
Well that does it for the first round. More tomorrow from Mike and I.
