NCAA Tournament blog- Big East Domination Part 2

Mike T here, and the NCAA Tournament re-started tonight the way it ended last Sunday- with the Big East winning. Both top-seeded UConn and Pitt got tough games from their opponents, but both prevailed to move to the Elite Eight.

In Arizona, the Huskies got 15 points and 15 rebounds from Hasheem Thabeet, and they held Purdue leading scorer Robbie Hummel to just 2 second half points en route to a 72-60 victory. Purdue's defense did hold the Huskies in check until the end, and even forced 13 UConn turnovers, but they were destroyed on the board (42-31). UConn will move onto the West regional final on Saturday against either (2) Memphis or (3) Missouri.

In Boston, the East region's top seed needed 5 huge points from LeVance Fields in the final minute to escape with a 60-55 victory over (4) Xavier. Fields' three with 50 seconds lefr gave Pitt the lead for good at 55-54. The Pitt defense held Xavier to 7-29 shooting in the second half, and overcame a 37-29 halftime deficit. Pitt will face either (2) Duke or (3) Villanova on Saturday in the East regional final.

Matt Soldano will be back after the 9:00 games to recap them, and update the WCWP Pool standings. So come back for that
